When we came here, we didn’t realize that the Elkhart, Indiana area is the RV Capital of the World. Many manufacturers like Newmar, Monaco, Jayco, Forest River, Travel Supreme, and several others make this area their home base. Too bad Winnebago isn’t here! Anyway, Frank found it all quite interesting. He even found RV salvage places to scavenge about in, looking in every nook and cranny! It was definitely his TJ Maxx!!
Another day, we took a little side trip to South Bend, Indiana. We wanted to take a look at Notre Dame…truly an impressive campus. We immediately saw the Gold Dome as we drove up the tree-lined avenue of the main entrance into the campus. We also found the football stadium of the Fighting Irish, the library with its beautiful outside mural, and then the campus bookstore.
What a busy place! Students were just returning for the fall semester and the bookstore was a beehive of activity! The hottest selling item was the new ’09 football tee shirt…over 75,000 sold the first day they came out! We picked up a few souvenirs for our Irish friends back home and then went on our way…back to Amish country!
