BACK TO THE DOOR

During our travels of six years Rving, we are beginning to find our favorite spots in the USA and have started returning to them.  It could be the location, the scenery, maybe the food, but more than anything it’s the people we meet in these places that bring us back. Door County Wisconsin is high on our list of favorites!

Bailey’s Campground on the “quiet” side of the peninsula is our little haven while there.  Here, two years ago, we met Ben and Sue…the Texans with Tennessee ties.  This year we were once again parked right next door…due to Ben and his influence with the campground owner…we got our favorite site!

While here we got to do lots more with Ben and Sue…breakfasts at Al Johnson’s and the Sandpiper, Bluegrass in Sister Bay, a night with the Big Band Sound at Birch Creek, dinners out at the Nightingale and The English Inn, happy hours and cookouts, and to top it all off, viewing the Tall Ships as they sailed into Sturgeon Bay!

The Tall Ships were a special treat.  Ben got us up close when he pulled rank on the young Ensign at the gate entrance to the Coast Guard Station.  We got the best seats in the house...right along the seawall where the ships came through the canal!!
During our stay at Bailey’s, we also met two couples who we hope to see this winter…Jim and Marilyn from Tennessee, and Ron and Joan from Wisconsin. Both couples winter in Florida.

REVISITING TRAVERSE CITY

After our brief stay at the hospitable Renswick compound, we made our way on to Traverse City where we stayed at Traverse Bay RV Resort. We stayed here two years ago and loved the area so much that we wanted to return to visit some of the friends we made here.  This time we only had a month to renew our old friendships and make new ones.

A DAY ON THE WATER:  SAILING LAKE CHARLEVOIX AND LAKE MICHIGAN
THERE WERE SO MANY NEW FRIENDS, BUT FOR SOME REASON I DIDN'T GET A PICTURE! MY APOLOGIES TO JUDY, NEIL, JERRY, FLO, AND MOLLY;  JEFFERY,  PAULETTE, AND FRANK AND BETTY!!  LYN DUNN, YOU WEREN'T IN THE PICTURE WITH YOUR WIFE, BETSY!  WE HOPE TO SEE EVERYONE AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!

During our month of July, the Cherry Festival was in full swing; Moomer’s, our favorite ice cream place was still in business; The Weathervane in Charleviox still made the best French Onion Soup and had the best view of the lake and boats for an afternoon lunch after sailing.  Hoxies was still making that wonderful Cherry Bread, and the downtown area offered us the shopping and dining we remembered.  The Old Mission Peninsula gave us afternoons of wine tasting and scenic panoramas of the lake country.  We love the area so much that we plan on going again next year and staying most of the summer!
