The Texans in Tennessee

It’s almost time to get Pearl back on the road for our 2010 road trip, but first, I need to finish up an entry from our trip last year…2009.

In October, when we left Charleston, we were heading home to Ft. Myers, but instead, decided to take a detour through Asheville, NC, and then to Tennessee for a visit with Mom and the family. By coincidence, while we were going to be in TN, friends we met in Door County Wisconsin in 2008, Ben and Sue, were going to be there, too…our timing was perfect!

Ben was a 1940’s (can’t remember the exact year) graduate of Castle Heights Military School in Lebanon, TN. He and Sue had returned for his class reunion and this gave us the opportunity to catch up with each other again!

We parked our coaches at Countryside Resort in Lebanon and spent a couple of days reliving the past and having great chat times while dining out together. Ben told colorful stories of Castle Heights, and how he, as a young boy from Wisconsin, came to be a cadet there.

This year we will be making another trip through Door County and certainly hope we run into the Texans again at Bailey’s Harbor Campground!! Be there in August and look forward to some of that mouth watering Prime Rib at Ben’s favorite dinner club!!

**Refer to July 2008 Blog entry “Making Friends and Memories in Door County” for more information on Ben and Sue.
