THE BIG ONE...TURNING 60!! Part 2

My 60th was celebrated with family, classmates…some coming from far away, and friends old and new.  The party was at my sister’s…thanks Sis and Allan for working so hard to help me plan and open up your home on June 12 for all my guests.  The evening turned out to be the hottest and most humid of the summer…oh, sure!! Lots of liquids drunk that night…and not just water!  The menu was pulled pork, chicken wings, slaw, and white beans catered by KirknBurt’s. My friend Karen Lee Shaver also made jalapeƱo corn muffins and her wonderful salsa!  The birthday cupcakes…strawberry with cream cheese icing…were made by Paige Hargett.  Everything was just perfect to help me celebrate “THE BIG 60”!!

THAT'S THE CELEBRATION OF MY 60TH! NOW IT'S ON TO 80!!

THE BIG ONE...TURNING 60!! Part 1

I ask myself, “Where did all the years go?  How did I get here so quickly?”  I measured my years in events…“ages” I waited for.  Christmas seemed liked it would never arrive!  Now, it’s like it comes every month and I can’t wait to get rid of the tree!!  Couldn’t wait to lose a tooth and start first grade; then high school…turning Sweet Sixteen, getting a driver’s license, dating that special someone, and then graduation night. Those years seemed like they would never end!  All I did was wish I were older!

College or full-time jobs came along; our twenties and thirties were consumed with marriages, careers, and raising children! For most of my friends, their lives are still consumed with children, but now it’s the grandchildren to dote over.  When did I finally stop wishing I were older??!!…or have I?

I find, now that I have turned sixty, I am wishing the next two years away…I want that Social Security, and at 65, I get Medicare! I also like those “Senior Discount” days or getting that movie discount for seniors! May as well take the savings! Like so many seniors think, I’m here and I earned it! I even live in Florida where all the senior snowbirds flock to in the winter! Man! I am fitting right in!

When did I get to be this old? I guess it happened as I was wishing my life away!  I do know that my sixty years has been a journey filled with “life” experiences shared with family and wonderful friends.  Hopefully, it’s not over yet!! Going forward, eighty is looking pretty good!!

HERE'S HOW THE PARTY WEEKEND BEGAN!
The Party Weekend started with "The Girls".  Lunch at Chili's...Dana arrived from Little Rock and Karen P. from Crossville.  Jackie, Karen S. and Joy joined in.  Great time with Wonderful Women in my life who have been there since school days in Smyrna!

What a Great Group!!

A huge surprise for Frank and myself was Matt and Beth arriving from San Diego!  We had no idea they were coming!  This was all arranged secretly by my sister, Sissy, Allan, and Sara Grace...they all can keep secrets! They arrived the Friday night before the party and surprised us while we were dining at Bonefish!  It really meant so much to us that they came all that long way for my birthday and for Father's Day!!
