The White Mountains of New Hampshire

August 14-24
We found a good “Big Rig” friendly RV park in Bridgewater, NH. This was a good location to base ourselves for ten days and be able to go off on day trips in the area. The park was empty most of our stay, but a few of us were long term and made for good evening company around the campfire.

Newfound Lake was close by and made the small town of Bristol and Bridgewater a busy place. Many cottages surrounded the lake bringing in the tourists and cottage owners to the area…especially on the weekends. We found ourselves sitting lakeside on one hot day enjoying the cooler breezes down by the water.
The White Mountains were a beautiful setting for many of our day trips. A drive along the Kancamagus Highway showed off its scenic vistas and the river’s calling to the many people who enjoyed a picnic on the banks or were tempted by the cold refreshing water. We just enjoyed watching!
Along Interstate 93, we took the drive north into the Franconia Notch area and the historic site of where the Old Man of the Mountain had once been. Luckily, we had visited here in 2001 before the Old Man’s profile fell off the mountain in 2003. Sad that happened, but the tourists still come to take a look at where he had once been. Old Indian Head profile can still be viewed in the area. Lots of profiles etched into the mountains. I may have found another…take a close look at the pictures and see if you see what I see!

OLD MAN PROFILE GONE...BUT MY OLD MAN STILL HERE!
CAN YOU SEE THE OLD MAN?
The area is also home to Canon Mountain. Here you can ride an aerial tram to the top of the mountain. We didn’t do this again, since we did it in 2001. Mom and Dad were with us on that trip. There is also the ski area and Flume Gorge that attracts visitors to the White Mountain National Forest.
