NO MUD ON OUR SHOES!

August 5
Our next stop after leaving Boothbay was suppose to be in Kennebunkport, a campground called The Red Apple. However, when we arrived, the site they were going to give to us was a total disaster! It had rained so much making the ground extremely swampy that we could not have set foot outside the coach without sinking almost ankle deep into muck and mire. To add insult to injury, the campground, thinking we would want to stay there, had placed sheets of plywood and other pieces of wood about the site so we could step around the coach! No thanks! There was no way we would enjoy our nine days here sinking in the mud!!

After looking places up in our Trailer Life directory, we got on the phone, and luckily found a place at Bayley’s Camping Resort in Scarborough, ME. One big rig site, #279, was left for the time period we wanted. Oh, sure…one site, what would that be like! Well, this chapter of our journey did have a fairy tale ending! The site was huge (as was the campground), graveled, partially shaded, all types of amenities, and as it turned out, only a few miles away from our friends’ cottage who we would be visiting while there! Behind every dark cloud there really is a silver lining!
August 6
After setting up the campsite with all our paraphernalia the day before, (at least we could, since there was no mud) we decided we may as well drive back over to Kennebunkport and see the village noted for the rich and famous, and of course, the summer home of President George W. Bush, Sr.

Kennebunkport was the typical New England seacoast village…lots of shops loaded with tee shirts and sweatshirts that would emblazon the words MAINE or KENNEBUNKPORT across your chest and thereby giving the wearer some sort of elated feeling of “Look where I’ve been”! You know what I mean…we’ve all got those shirts! But no sweatshirt for me! Wait until you see my Lobster pajama pants!! Everybody will
want a pair of these beauties!

While roaming about looking at all the goodies the shops had to offer and taking my normal number of digital pictures that would later be deleted or end up here on the blog, my picture taking got interrupted by a very rude driver of a huge SUV. This vehicle wanted the handicapped spot I was standing in while trying to take a picture of the town’s monument. Hey! Wait a sec…I’m taking a picture here!!

The car kept inching towards me, not wanting to wait for me to finish taking my picture. After lifting my hands in despair at the vehicle, I moved so they could park. After parking, there were several casually dressed men who got out of the cars (there were two of the same SUVs) and were standing around seeming to talk to themselves. It began to dawn on us, after seeing the little ear pieces connected to them, that these were Secret Service guarding either George W. or Mrs. Bush.

Turned out that it was George, Sr. We overheard the conversation that they were there at the Pharmacy to pick up a prescription for Mrs. Bush. George was in the backseat…you could see him, even through the tinted window, but he never got out. Ummm, all that hubbub for a prescription. We never would have even known he was there if it hadn’t been for all the commotion the Secret Service caused. Hey! That’s what our government is paying for! Surprised I didn’t get arrested when I gave them the “WAIT A MINUTE ARM SHRUG”! Good thing they didn't know I was a Democrat!!

We later took a ride around Ocean Avenue to see the compound where the Bushes live. Very impressive…as were the other many beautiful homes around the ocean view road. Don’t know if I would like all the tourists ogling my house and creating bumper to bumper traffic jams, and all the security involved there, but if anyone wanted to just give me a place, I certainly wouldn’t turn it down!

Oh Yeah! I didn't forget the Lobster PJ's!! Let me know if I can pick up a pair for you!!
