PEI Hospitality Continues

July 13-14
Our next few days, while still guests at the cottage, were spent exploring the Cavendish area, an evening dinner at a local waterside restaurant, and getting in a round of golf at Mill River with John and Margaret Ann before they left to head back to Ontario.

The state park at Cavendish showed off its red banks and beaches that exposed craggy rocks jutting out into the ocean. The drives along the shore road were full of “ups and downs” and “ins and outs” creating vistas that made you want to stop and take picture after picture. The area invites tourists to stay in their cozy seaside cottages or their groomed Bed and Breakfast Inns…so many choices!

EXPLORING CAVENDISH
The rolling landscape of the island offered views of tiny hamlets harboring lobster boats and coves set with mussel and oyster beds. Fields were in bloom with the many potato crops PEI is so noted for…the rich red soil fertilizing their production. Breathtaking fields of yellow mustard fed our eyes with their brilliant color.
Rounding every corner on this incredible island was a reminder that we were in “Anne of Green Gables” country. The replica setting Avonlea was recreated for the inspired stories and movies. This village was also in the Cavendish area along with gift shops galore! The birthplace of Lucy Montgomery, author of the “Anne” stories, was right around the corner from Peter and Pam’s in New London. My only regret of our visit was that we did not take the time to go see the musical while visiting in Charlottetown.

Our golf excursion took us to Mill River where “The Big Break” was recently filmed for the Golf Channel. MA and John had reservations for a night’s stay at the resort and tee times made for golf; along we went to spend the day on the links with them…today was John’s birthday!

A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR GOLF

After playing the course, we returned to the cottage to spend our last night there and to visit with Pam and Peter. The stay here was so relaxing and easy, but it was time to leave. Well, not really leave; we were just going 20 miles down the road to our campground, Twin Shores. We would see Pam and Peter once again before leaving. Our last night on the island we met for dinner…had to have more mussels!!

Thanks so much, P&P, for a wonderful time at your cottage by the sea…your summer paradise. See you in Florida this winter!
