PEI Hospitality

July 12
A Sunday afternoon took us across the Confederation Bridge onto Prince Edward Island. What a bridge and what a toll!! The bridge is an eight mile expansion built in 1997 connecting New Brunswick and PEI. It’s the world’s longest bridge over ice-covered waters. The toll is not paid until you are leaving the Island…then they get you! Pearl and the Toad cost $58.00 (Canadian) to cross back to New Brunswick. It was a small price to pay to see the beauty and receive the generous PEI hospitality shown to us during our 10 day stay!

Our first destination was to the village of Stanley Bridge where we were the guests of Peter and Pam at their PEI “getaway” cottage. We were given a premium parking spot for Pearl overlooking New London Bay. What awesome views…the morning sunrise; mussel boats checking their beds; the red sand banks reflecting their brilliant colors in the setting sun. Then there was Swiper…the Red Fox that we caught glimpses of in the afternoon as he patrolled his realm. What a beautiful and peaceful place to spend a few days.
THE VIEW

Our first night there…also joined by John and Margaret Ann…found us gathered on the front deck to hoist a few, take in the view, and chat about the Acadia reunion we all had attended over the weekend. Good memories while creating new memories!
Peter and Pam were the perfect hosts seeing to our every need and spoiling us royally! Our first meal…steamed mussels and lobster…was to die for! I have never steamed mussels or eaten many, but after watching and participating in the preparation, I think Frank and I will be eating lots more. Get out the wine and garlic!!! I have become an aficionado!!

FRANK AND PETER DISCUSSING THE WINE AND DINING ON MUSSELS!
While we were steaming mussels in the kitchen, Peter had his own show going outside boiling the lobsters. I think it’s a myth that you can hear them squeal when they go in the pot; however, I did hear one lobster say to the other lobsters, “I thought y’all said we were going out for dinner…NOT THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE DINNER!!”
OUR HOSTS PREPARING DINNER

I COULD GET USE TO THIS!!
After “yumming” our way through our courses of appetizers and cracking the entrees, we ended the evening wishing John a “surprise” happy birthday. Cake and ice cream were served and John feted with cards and gifts. It was a perfect ending to a perfect meal and day...an evening with friends!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!
